Aboriginal Twinning Project

The Canadian Teachers’ Federation and the Assembly of First Nations (AFN) introduced a First Nations Twinning pilot project through Imagineaction that attempted to bridge the distance between classrooms and offer a common virtual platform to share stories.

This pilot project offered the opportunity to enrich awareness and knowledge of First Nations’ culture to all students in Canada. It provided a link to bridge cultural distances and to increase understanding and motivate action. The pilot project offered the possibility of focusing on our respective communities and learning from one another, and about celebrating commonalities and respecting differences. Most importantly, this pilot project offered a platform for reflection, critical thinking, leadership, action, creativity, and empowerment of the individual student.

The pilot project launched in the spring of 2013 with the following schools:

Pierre Elliott Trudeau Elementary School + Samson Cree Elementary School
Westwood Senior High School + Kahnawa:ke Survival School
