Financial Literacy- A Proactive Approach to Poverty

Students will participate in a series of workshops throughout the school year that will engage them in learning about savings, effective consumer decisions, and developing an understanding for those living in poverty in their city/community. Additionally, select students will collect silver coin from every classroom weekly/ bi-weekly in an initiative called "Surplus Silver" to donate to a charity of choice. This is an excellent opportunity to show how even the smallest amount can add up to make a difference. There may be an opportunity (still working on collaborating with woods/construction teacher) to build bird houses to auction and host a school/community garage sale where funds are donated towards the student's charity of choice.
