Greenfilms…Documenting Change

The goal of this project is to engage students in thinking, writing, and acting on environmental issues. They will choose from local environmental themes and then write, film, edit and produce short documentaries on these issues. Our class is working with writer/director/editor Roger Maunder to write, film and produce videos on environment change.

Update (June 1, 2010)

We produced five separate scripts on environmental topics, ranging from drive-through emissions and deforestation, to urban sprawl and the consumption of electricity. However, because of time constraints we settled on a master project that involved all students and gave them experience in all aspects of film work. Our children were very motivated by this venture and they worked quite independently to achieve our “24 Ways” project.

Since our initial venture with the “24 Ways” video, students have gone on to create other projects. In partners they have researched, developed and filmed videos on volunteering. They have thus produced 12 “commercials” promoting volunteering with such agencies as the SPCA, YMCA, Beagle Paws and the Memorial Botanical Gardens.
