Greening of our Schoolyard

Our school yard has no shady areas for the students to take shelter from the sun during the summer months. The school community is looking at revising the school plan for our school yard when it comes to shade and greening of our yard by planting appropriate trees. The students would select the area from this central plan, the purchase of our trees would be made at a local business and the community would assist with the planting of the trees. The students would be involved in maintaining the trees, i.e. watering, etc

Mise à jour (1 mai 2010)

Five trees were planted to provide shade for the student body, and to enhance our school yard. After our plan was approved, the planting of the 12-15ft. trees occurred on May 3rd, 2010. A wonderful tree planting ceremony took place at San Marco School on Wednesday, May 5th, 2010.

Students, staff and parents were all involved with the preparations for the ceremony. To prepare for the tree planting ceremony, the entire student body helped to decorate the gymnasium with pieces of art. The intermediate division created individual poems and two students were chosen to read their poems at the ceremony. The San Marco school band played many wonderful songs and practiced extremely hard. The student council worked hard to set up chairs for the dignitaries, parents, guests, and students.

At the conclusion of the assembly, student council, student representatives from each class, parents and dignitaries went outside to where the trees had been planted. They gathered in a circle around each tree planted to form a “Circle of Friends”. Father blessed each tree and two students shared their individual poems.
