Students Involved in Community Service: Visiting a Senior Home

Because many of our students at St. Elizabeth School come from families of need, and it is challenging to engage in social justice projects that ask for fundraising or donations. Therefore, we want to support student success by giving them the opportunity to make a difference in other people’s lives not by monetary donations, but by action through community service.

This project will involve students making visits to a local Senior Home and build relationships with its residents. Students will have the opportunity to engage in various recreational and therapeutic activities with the senior residents and be able to share their individual talents and gifts with others. Students will show their care for others by reaching out as contributing members of the larger community.

Update (May 14, 2014)

Students at St. Elizabeth School have made consistent visits to a local senior home, Shepherd's Care. Students have engaged in various activities with residents, such as crafts, planting, board games, bingo, and even some cooking. They have made wonderful relationships with the facility's residents who often do not get visits from children. The students of St. Elizabeth School were able to participate in volunteerism in their community and to make a difference in other people's lives.
