LISTEN, I READ
BOOK: THE SISTERS BROTHERS
AUTHOR: PATRICK DE WITT

Students will read The Sisters Brothers and through a variety of activities and discussion, will study the questioning and development of main character Eli. Through Eli’s search to find his true self, students will be asked to reflect upon their own identity. Students will make connections between the novel and their own role and identity within the school community. They will collaborate in creating a social awareness campaign centered around acceptance and inclusion of others, embracing differences, in order to help create a vibrant school atmosphere. Students will collaborate in groups to create a video.

Mise à jour (7 juin 2012)

Today our class was given the opportunity to have a Skype session with Patrick deWitt, author of The Sisters Brothers. In spite of some technological problems, the meeting was a great success.

The students greatly enjoyed the novel and had many questions they were yearning to ask the author. The students were provided with answers to their questions and so much more. Mr.deWitt was able to share his passion for reading and to inspire students to continue exploring the gift of books. Many were also inspired to pursue their own passion for writing.

The students were also given a deeper insight into this entertainingly complex novel, and were left with a new perspective and understanding of the novel and its characters.

The experience was most valuable for the students. The books received as part of this project are a gift that will keep on giving to future students.

Students are now completing videos based on the theme To Thrive in relation to the novel.
