Gay Straight Alliance Video Project

This is the inaugural year for the Peterborough CIS Gay-Straight Alliance. Our club is devoted to human rights and human dignity, including the rights and dignity of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender humans. Our bi-weekly meetings focus around social justice and education and our goal is to educate our staff, student body and community about lesbian, bisexual and transgender people and anti-gay harassment and violence. Our members may be of any sexual orientation or gender identity.

The CIS GSA has decided that our main project this year will be to develop presentations about social justice and anti-gay harassment. These presentations will be student-driven and will target not only students at our own school, but also students in Grades 7 and 8. To prepare for these presentations, we will be visiting other high schools with established GSAs and will be recruiting guest speakers. For our presentations we will create a film/documentary to enhance and share our learning.

Update (May 4, 2012)

Throughout this project our group have decided to change our name to QSA (queer-straight alliance). The decision was made to be more inclusive. We have continued to meet on a regular basis and in April we purchased a camera. We have developed an outline for our video. As a group, we have decided to use still photos of people and words to represent the beauty of individuality.
