Green House

When our school addition was built a few years ago we have a new corridor that is not used currently. However, it is completely lit by south facing windows and skylights. We would like to purchase shelving, seeds, soil and have the woodshop make workbenches to start up a greenhouse. We will be putting a community vegetable garden on our new green roof this spring to produce fruits/veggies for our breakfast program and cafeteria.

Mise à jour (17 mai 2013)

May 2013- We bought our supplies and met with a member of the Peterborough Community Garden Network to start our seedlings. Currently we have the ecoschool club, science classes, the Special Education dept. and the Foods course all growing plants. We are in a bit of an experimentation stage with the plan of working out which plants will be successful and a care schedule etc. We are excited to see the "fruits" of our labour and to be ready to charge full steam ahead this coming fall for the 2013/2014 school year.

Mise à jour (20 juin 2013)

We had many classes (Foods, science, special education and eco-schools club) make use of our greenhouse space this spring. It was a bit of a learning process and we hope to take what we have learned and get things growing first thing in Sept. for the winter. Most of the plants and veggies are being distributed to staff and students over the summer and some will be returned for continued care and use in the fall while we will start many others fresh.
