Mise à jour (20 mai 2013)

The program became one to help support girls in developing their self esteem, and social skills. Some girls have engaged in small group social skills development, while others have been involved in a reading buddies program at our feeder school. They go once a week and read to grade 3's. They are students who have found some difficulty fitting in at school/making and maintaining friends, or are just needing some help with their social skills. There are girls from grade 6, 7 and 8 involved in the reading buddies program.

The girls in the reading buddies program and the social skills development program will be involved in running a pink lemonade drink sale at our school's Jump Rope for Heart event in June. The sale goes to support the Because I am a Girl program.

Mise à jour (29 août 2013)

Girl's Zone was very successful. The girls this year were selected based on those that could use some help building leadership skills, or develop social skills. It made for a good mix of girls. They engaged in a reading buddy program at lunch with our feeder school down the road at lunch time once twice per ten day cycle. This helped to build the leader within. By the end of the year as they engaged in the culminating task - to run a school wide drink sale to support Because I am a Girl - alongside our Jump Rope for Heart Day, they rose to the occasion. They arrived early, mixed the drinks, created media building up to the sale that informed of the organization, why they were raising the money and promotions for the drink sale. They rose $314.00 for Plan Canada in support of Because I am a Girl and were asking about next year!
