We are currently seeking out various community partners who could come to provide learning opportunities for our students as well as the various program consultants that are available through our school board. Our goal is to have these partners targeted before September 2011, so we may schedule our year based upon their availabilities. We would like to have guest speakers for each of our student of the month assemblies.

King Edward Students are M.A.D. - Making A Difference

During 2010 – 2011, our student body focused on creating an eco-friendly educational awareness program - “It Ain’t Easy Going Green”. The success the students have experienced with their eco-initiative is the main reason for this application. Our M.A.D. student-leaders want to promote the great people who are part of our school community. One goal is to provide mini-workshops to classes, create displays throughout the school, and promote our school activities through assemblies and our school website that our school is a great place, not just because of the teachers, but because of the students and their willingness to be involved, understanding, respectful, inclusive and cooperative. By utilizing these characteristics into our awareness program, we can enhance our character counts program and reinforce that when all students are working together, we can really make a difference. Ideally, our main goal is to develop a sustainable belief in our school that we all can make things better, if we all work together. Through additional incentives and opportunities to promote and celebrate the great things that are happening at our school, we will impact student engagement at school that will ultimately improve academic engagement as well. We want to have a sustainable student-led character counts program in place by the end of the school year that we will be able to continue to grow and improve for years to come. It won’t be easy making all of our students be M.A.D. at King Edward, but we are up for the challenge!

Update (November 6, 2012)

We had a lot of fun at King Edward Public School, establishing our M.A.D. (Making A Difference) Program! We hope to keep the program alive this year and have already had a few projects get underway such as one of our teachers raising funds to purchase bike helmets for students who are in need, a grade two class that collected over 100 coats for their own winter coat drive for Kids and recently, one young girl has stated her own Girl Power project to help raise funds for girls in other countries who need money and supplies to get an education! We really hope to continue this program and continue being MAD!

Thanks to Imagineaction for helping Kick-start our program!
