Eco Friendly Club

We would like to work in partnership with staff, the parent council and numerous community organizations on establishing an Environment Club of students from Grades 1-6. The Eco-Friendly Club will learn about the environment and complete activities that they will showcase in the school; take a leadership role within the school at assemblies, and be responsible for environmentally friendly practices within the school. The club will also help develop a Rock Garden/Green space outside where we currently have patches of dead grass and broken pavement. Student will be part of the planning, development, planting and maintaining of space, leading to ownership, pride and responsibility.

Mise à jour (16 novembre 2011)

As a school was have discussed how we are going to implement the project by starting with an Eco-team. We have been in touch with several organizations to get us thinking green. Our environment club will be addressing students at assemblies educating students about different ideas to consider in the environment and at school. This club will be taking an active role in change our school and making us "green".

Mise à jour (16 mai 2012)

Our green space is finally taking shape as the weather is now co-operating for us. The grade 5 & 6 students have teamed up with the Kindergarten students to build vegetable gardens, paint, plant flowers and revitalize a section of our school grounds. We live in a low income area where much of our property has been destroyed in the past, so we hope with school announcements, and through team building this can remain intact and seen as a respected area. We began our planting indoors and the children are so excited to develop our new space. School support staff--principal, teachers, and custodial staff have all pitched in to make this project a dream come true for our school. Thank you again for this great opportunity!
Some of the items purchased include wood to make square flower beds, flowers, shrubs, paint, garden tools, potting supplies, seeds, hose and accessories, watering cans and indoor garden supplies.
