Mindful Zen Garden

Far too often in our current day and age, it is easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of life, technology, and the endless commitments we all seem to have. We sometimes have no quite space to have clarity of thought. Grade six English students in Mr. Taylor's class aim to re-purpose an area on the school grounds to create a quiet space for students/classes to chat, read and relax-and above all, be mindful. Following the Aboriginal tradition, benches will be arranged in a square format so that all classes who use the area will be able to see one another (talking circle style). Around the area, will be freshly planted flowers, bushes and trees to give a more beautiful and serene feeling that many students have missing in their lives.

Update (April 28, 2019)

Our class plans to re-purpose this old area with pavement, bushes and trees as a functional space for classes to either use for play, educational instruction or to just relax with a nice book or ones own thoughts. Currently, students are beginning to clean up the space and figure out where the benches, flowers, bushes, etc. will be placed in the garden. Weather permitting, the garden will officially be under construction from June 1st to June 15th. Stay tuned!
