Quilting for Social Growth

“Quilting for Social Growth” is a project we are building on from our “Stitching our way to compassion” from last year. Through quilting, students learn important skills, patience, practise makes perfect and social justice by creating a quilt design, by sewing the quilt pieces together and by donating it to our local parish for their fundraiser. Students learn the importance of being involved in the community and being a contributing member. A community member volunteers her time at school to help the students create the quilt and achieve their goal.

Students enjoyed personalizing the class quilt by using sharpies and rubbing alcohol to create a tie-dye effect. We also voted to create a Pokémon picture on the other side.

After taking a group picture on the stairs of St-Marc Parish, our students have donated the quilt to the Parish.

"I feel good about donating the quilt because someone who does not have enough money to buy a quilt, has the chance to win a quilt. It was also very fun to sew the quilt with my friends." (Connor, student from St. Marc school)
