Cooking Club

We are forming a cooking club at school to help engage students in wellness and healthy eating. They will learn how to shop for good food, make food from scratch, make a recipe and enjoy what they have done!

In an effort to teach students how to properly plan a meal on a budget, students will be given the weekly grocery store flyers and must plan meals that come to no more than 5$ per person per meal. We are hoping that this not only helps them in understanding budgeting, but also how difficult it would be to plan a food budget in less fortunate countries.
Using a hydroponic system we will also be growing some of our food (herbs, lettuce and some vegetables) to cut down on costs and to show how easy it is to do this at home.

Mise à jour (23 mai 2019)

Cooking Club has been part of the extra curricular activities at Gault for 2 years now. It is always in demand and the students love it. With the money received from ImagineAction, we were able to buy many tools, much needed, to better our classes. Students were able to use different small electric appliances to make their work easier and faster. They were able, with our purchases to make hummus from scratch, tofu spread and many more. We were also able to cook a Christmas meal for the whole school! We cannot wait to continue learning about healthy foods and experiment with different cooking techniques next year!

Mise à jour (11 juin 2019)

As we reflect on this amazing extra-curricular activity, students would like to add on to Cooking Club next year. The children would like to grow some of their ingredients. Using our school's NutriTower, our cooking club would like to start growing some products ourselves to reduce the cost of our ingredients and to use local products (herbs, lettuce, sprouts, etc.)
