Seven Oaks Met School Benefit Show

One of my students, Meg Boehm is planning on producing a fashion show alongside a Gr. 12 student of our school, Eric Jasysyn's benefit concert. The show is in support of raising awareness about the water crisis in a northern Indigenous community in Manitoba, Shoal Lake. Many northern communities are still under boil-water advisory and Eric and Meg not only want to raise awareness about this issue, but take action in directly helping Shoal Lake. With the funds raised by their concert they are hoping to purchase life straw filtration devices and educate around water safety with these systems. (Although our school has a population of 120 students, the reach is to at least 45 student volunteers throughout the division and a goal audience of 200 people)

Here's a picture of the post-event that happened two months after the benefit show as a response for what students learned that night. Over 1000 students from across the city of Winnipeg rallied together after the benefit show for Shoal Lake 40 First Nation to shut down Portage and Main of Winnipeg. Students marched from City Hall, to Manitoba Hydro and then the Legislative Building to raise awareness for not only the community of Shoal Lake 40 First Nation, but all of the other communities across Canada that are under boil water advisories.
