Students Unite: Building Relationships Through Art (Music, Dances, and Stories)

Singing, dancing, and storytelling are fun and effective ways to bring students together. This project will give students opportunity to do an in depth research on multicultural songs, dances, and folktales from around, how they bring people together, appreciate each other, and build connections. The research is aimed at finding materials, learning, and sharing them in class and two elementary classes in the district.

Project Title: Students Unite: Building Relationships Through Art (Music, Dances, and Stories

This project stemmed from the idea that relationships among students help make schools a better learning environment. North Island Secondary School's Grade 9 and 10 students participated in this relationship building activities within the school and outside.
Grade 9 students worked on a collaborative project to put on an literary/musical afternoon presentation. The presentation consisted of poetry readings, group singing, story-telling, and choral recitation.
My Grade 10 class partnered with Sunset Elementary School and shared their story-telling skills to five elementary classes. They planned story-telling lessons for four primary classes and one intermediate class. To culminate the lessons, students prepared extended activities of arts and crafts. Students then took their projects home to show their parents.
