Creating change, one button at a time

This project is about creating a change in our school and showing students what an impact they can have on others around them, even from their classrooms. Students are looking for a way to branch into the community, inspire their fellow students to help create change and generate a profit for students to donate to a larger global community. They are planning on hosting monthly pin challenges, picking a winner and creating those pins, magnets, etc for other students/community to sell. They would also like to set up at local markets to help spread their message to others in the surrounding areas to inspire change on a global level.

Mise à jour (11 juin 2019)

Update # 1: Students were excited to create change on a world wide scale. They branched out to other schools by emailing teachers to see if they were interested in selling their buttons to raise money for their cause. They decided the best place to start was by creating buttons for another organization, WRED. They sold 50 buttons to them after Christmas. This then led them to creating a contact with WRED Jr., which is still in discussions.

Update # 2: Students were looking to generate more buzz for their buttons and then came up with the idea to sell buttons for special occasions. They were generating finds for Winter Carnival pins, custom pins and pins for the school. They were out everyday selling to all those that were in the building. With this, they realized how much they needed to be out selling face to face, for people to be purchasing them. They learned how valuable talking with someone about a cause was rather than just reading about the cause. It was important for people to see what they were doing rather than pass it up.

Update # 3: Moving forward, now that students have a better understanding of how the button maker works, and how they need to be advertising and hitting the pavement, in the new school year, they can continue on their worldly journey! They have exciting times ahead of them and expansion is key to their success. The lessons learned about real-life experiences is truly valuable with these types of projects.

Mise à jour (14 juin 2019)

Update # 1: Students were excited to get their button maker to figure out how they were going to start generating revenue for their cause. They had a lot of great ideas after brainstorming. Now it was the daunting task of picking the organization and how to promote it in such a small, rural area. The global path ensued and the students were ready to hit the ground running. Once they figured out the workings of the button maker and started teaching each other, they started to think of how to reach out to others. This led to a few of them emailing other schools in order to figure out what they could do together! They ended up partnering with two other school and are in the works of building on this relationship to generate their funds!
