Outdoor Education

We are in the planning stages of implementing a land-based outdoor education program. We have three curriculum named: Sustainable Wilderness, Wildlife Management, and Resource/Habitat Management.

We are situated in Waywayseecappo First Nation and are attempting to bring our students closer to traditional ways and familiarize them with environmental sustainability.

Our students will engage in hands-on exercises that will enable them to learn the cultural ways of the Anishinabe people. While working on the curriculum the students will interact with the environment around them and join with various agencies within our area on projects. One of our goals is for our students to become leaders for the younger generation in the capacity of youth camps.

Waywayseecappo Off-Campus School has begun our Outdoor Education Program with many activities:

*We began by training all of our students in First Aid, and hunters' safety courses.
*We purchased work boots and Coveralls for each of the students.
*We purchased materials and had a sister school build 6.5 x 8ft warm-up/storage shack.
* We learned through hands-on training how to tan moose hides.
*We went ice-fishing twice
* We actively participated alongside many environmental agencies in the removal of 7500 sucker fish from a lake that will be re-stocked with trout.

The monies we received from CTF was allocated towards the coveralls, which we have used for fishing, tanning hides, and the fish removal project.
