Relaxation Room

With the increase in anxiety levels among students, we would like to expand our Relaxation Room, which we typically used only at exam time. This room would provide students with a quiet space during the day, where they could go to de-stress. This room would also be used for small group Mindfulness sessions, led by the Guidance Counselor.

Update (October 26, 2017)

To date we have repainted our mindfulness room and added furniture such as rocking chairs, exercise ball chairs, yoga mats, a stationary bike and various manipulatives and coloring supplies. I am currently using the room for small group mindfulness sessions and the room is open to any student who just needs a place to relax. Hopefully our room will be used during exams as a place where students can centre themselves before and after exams.

Update (June 11, 2018)

Our Relaxation Room has been a great success. It is used daily by both students and staff as a quiet place to calm down or to just have a few minutes of down time. Students use it as a quiet place to study and our Educational Assistants often bring in students who need a few minutes away from the noise and activity of daily school life. I have used this room for small group activities, such as mindfulness and our staff has used the room for after school yoga sessions.
