Social Action Project

Grade 10 students at Robert Thirsk High School will be participating in a Social Action Task in which they choose a local or global issue of concern and pursue action in order to address the issue. Students will conduct research on their topic as well as contact NGO's or charities to identify possible ways to be involved in a solution. Student will choose to fundraise money, volunteer, collect donations, spread awareness culminating in an evening at the school where their work will be shared with the community. This project highlights the outcome relating to citizens’ responsibilities in a globalizing world. Their main objective is to explore what positive impact they can make in their local and global community. When this project has taken place in the past, many students have followed through with their volunteering in the years to come. Over the past few years students at Robert Thirsk have raised a significant amount of money and accumulated hundreds of hours of volunteer time resulting in a project that is recognized and valued by all students and staff in our school community.
