Growing Our Brains

Students will be learning about Growth Mindset and the learning brain. These topics will educate students to overcome stereotypes and will help students understand how everyone has the ability to achieve in any subject; no matter their gender or ethnicity. Students will also have the opportunity to engage in fun meaningful language, math and science tasks to help them see how reading, writing, math and science can be engaging and interesting for all. This goal will be met by using technological devices such as iPads, coding apps, STEM tasks, technological devices and classroom robots.

Mise à jour (26 avril 2017)

Students absolutely loved the book: "Your Fantastic Elastic brain". Students enjoyed learning more information about the brain, then previously learned in the Mindsup program; a program that helps students learn how to train your brain to relax, breathe and concentrate. Also, we have completed an entire unit on "Growth Mindset" (how anyone can improve their skills and abilities through practice and positive thinking). In addition, students have actively participated in the Stanford University class "How to learn math: for students"; a growth mindset class for math (anyone can excel in math if they believe in themselves and learn that our brains can grow by making mistakes and persevering). The book "The Fantastic Elastic brain" pulls these two big ideas together to sum up our project. Students will be sharing the information they have learned with their penpals at St. Joseph school. The growth mindset results we have gathered will also be shared with parents and other schools at a board level.
