Community Kitchen for Kids

Many of our school children come from low income families that struggle to provide healthy meals for their children. We want to be able to impact families that may have a difficult time economically in feeding healthy foods to their families and to show them that eating healthy doesn't have to cost a lot of money. The Culinary class will pair up with children in grades 3-5 to work in the kitchen and prepare healthy meals and snacks that the children can take home to share with their families.

Community Kitchen brings together students to learn about healthy food and eating habits. We will be making snacks and meals that the students will be able to take home and share with their families.

Not only will the younger students learn to prepare healthy meals, the Culinary class will prepare short mini-lessons on nutrition, meal preparation and recipes and will teach these lessons to the young children.

All recipes used will be compiled into booklets to be sent home with every child in the hopes that families will find it beneficial.

Update (March 1, 2017)

Our high school culinary class enjoyed an afternoon of cooking healthy meals with some of our elementary students. Each elementary student was able to take home a healthy meal and dessert for their family. It was a time of teaching about nutrition as well as relationship building between the two age groups.

Update (May 30, 2017)

Our high school students have really enjoyed working with the elementary students to prepare and send home healthy meals for families. The elementary students love getting together with the older students.
