Community memory garden

The Justice Squad (student social justice action group) would like to start a school/community garden. Harvest from the garden would be split between the school (Home Ec classes) and Friendship Inn (a local soup kitchen). We will also incorporate the "Memory Garden" as part of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission follow-up.

Update (May 18, 2017)

In June 2016, the Justice Squad at Bethlehem CHS in Saskatoon planted a Heart Garden. The garden had several goals. First, we wanted to show solidarity with the Truth and Reconciliation process by supporting the memory of those children who suffered and died in Residential Schools; these were the paper hearts and flower seeds planted. Second, we wanted our students to have the experience of working a garden, so they planted and tended vegetables. Third, our Home Economics students were able to work with fresh, home-grown produce to make healthy, tasty food (soup, salsa, salad).
This spring, thanks to CTF and Imagineaction we were able to purchase our own garden tools, rather than ask teachers to loan us theirs from home! We look forward to planting and harvesting even more this year. Our long-term goal is to expand our garden and make it both a school and community garden.
