Building Partnerships through Literacy

The students in my Grade 5 class will be practicing social justice by reading to a group of Kindergarten students in another school in my city. Each Kindergarten student will be provided with several new books.

Mise à jour (1 juin 2016)

Yesterday my students went to St. John Bosco School to participate in an Imagineaction project to help reduce poverty through literacy. My students read to the Kindergarten students and provided each student with a book, colouring book and crayons. We also prepared popsicle art together and now we are in the process of creating matching bulletin boards in our respective schools so that other teachers and students can see the value of the Imagineaction project.

Today my class generated two persuasive writing topics based on the school tour that they had at St. John Bosco. My students will now be writing essays to argue why our school should have a cafeteria and an exercise room.

I felt like I taught my students something valuable yesterday. We had a good day!

Mise à jour (13 juin 2016)

After we returned from our field trip we worked on writing persuasive essays arguing that our school should have a cafeteria or workout room like the one we saw when we went for our tour at St. John Bosco.

The photo attached shows the exercise room that we got to try out when we visited the school. It was quite a treat!
