FAIR TRADE IN SCHOOLS - AT INNISDALE S.S.

Students at Innisdale S.S. are interested in participating in the pilot program to complete the tasks to achieve Fair Trade School designation, as outlined by the Canadian Teachers’ Federation (CTF) in partnership with Fairtrade Canada (FTC). The start-up component of this project will be spearheaded by a small group of students; two students in the Grade 12 Social Justice & Equity course have met with community partner Bruce Morton and agreed to act as school leaders. Other student volunteers are getting involved with the initial planning team; the team is planning events to get a larger number of students informed and involved.
Our goals in participating in the Fair Trade Schools Program are to help students and educators to understand the connections between the lives of children in poorer countries and the everyday purchasing decisions of Canadians. As such, this is a student leadership activity that will encourage active global citizenship.
