Keep the Promise

Students will prepare a community event where they will raise awareness of child poverty in their community and in Canada. Funds that are raised during the community event will be used to purchase items for "shoe boxes". Students will investigate what children in their community need (through an organization still to be decided) and they will prepare "shoe boxes" that they will donate to these children. We hope to make the "shoe boxes" three times this year: Christmas, March Break and summer break.

Mise à jour (29 janvier 2015)

December: Students in the social justice group (50 students) learned to knit and prepared baby blankets. 10 blankets and 3 full boxes of toiletries were donated to the CAS the week before Christmas.

January: Students organized a community skating party. During this party, students raised awareness of Keep the Promise and child poverty in Canada. They also raised funds with popcorn sales, hot chocolate sales, bake sale, a raffle and a silent auction (student created art). They advertised, made public service announcements and prepared various informative posters. All 50 students in the social justice group were involved in the preparation and many attended the event. The money raised will be going to preparing boxes for the CAS. Students will research what is needed in order to fill the boxes. Our timeline for the boxes is March Break.
