Our Local Habitat

During the month of November and December our 7 Kindergarten classes will be learning about animals and their environments.
1.With a visit to the Museum of Nature in Ottawa we will learn about Canadian animals, their basic needs and adaptations that help them survive in different habitats. Students gain an awareness of natural habitats through observation and discovery.
2.We will identify special wild places where we can connect with nature – a birdfeeder in our backyard, a walking trail, or a conservation area. Students will discover their own special wild space where they can explore their relationship with the wild. As they come to know the creatures that share their space, they’ll learn that, although such places provide sanctuary, these spaces also need our protection.
3.We will learn about the value of wildlife and the interconnection with humans. We will also learn about the potential impacts of climate change and human activity on species and their habitats.
4.We will develop a plan to help an animal in a special wild space. (i.e., birdfeeder, adopt a “leave no trace attitude”, pick up litter, propose a “no-mow” zone, make others aware, plant a tree)

Mise à jour (20 mars 2011)

In November, our 6 kindergarten classes enjoyed an education visit to the Museum of Nature. We explored various Canadian habitats to help Billy the Beaver find his home. While exploring these habitats we learned about the adaptations animals have to survive and live where they do.

We went on a Nature Hike to learn about special wild places in our community.

We learned about the scarcity of food for local birds during the winter months. To help these birds we built bird feeders with our father's. Thank you Home Depot for all your help!
