Literacy in Action - Listen, I Read

This joint initiative with the Canada Council for the Arts, the Public Lending Right Commission, the Canadian Commission for UNESCO and the Canadian Teachers’ Federation has put students directly in touch with Canadian authors for the last three years. From a list of pre-selected, grade-specific, and theme-identified books, Imagineaction has funded the supply of classroom books and classroom conversations with Governor General Award Winning Canadian authors.

The project outcomes:

  • Promoted Authors and literature in schools
  • Advanced reading skills
  • Associated the creative process to everyday life
  • Sparked citizen engagement in the arts, and from the arts.

I really enjoyed the wide and diverse selection of texts. The opportunity to talk with an author via Skype was a writing lesson that I never could have delivered. Thanks for the chance to have such a rich experience in the classroom. [Classroom teacher]

The interview with [the author] was truly amazing. He was motivating and his answers were genuine and complete. The students loved him for his passion and they respect him for his dedication to his fans. I have provided them each with a copy of the interview, and they may cherish it for life.
