Hear me Roar Bullying Campaign!

This project titled “Hear US Roar Bullying Campaign” was initiated by the guidance counsellor and special services team at Holy Cross Elementary in Holyrood. It partnered with the schools Safe and Caring Committee as a way to ensure that the role of creating a safe and caring school environment for all students and staff was met. The research around the reality of bullying is clearly an indicator that no student is safe. Therefore, a priority of Holy Cross Elementary quickly became our school wide bullying video involving all students to create awareness of the issue and hopefully deter future occurrences. We are concentrating on creating a safe and caring school environment for our students as well as developing responsible and respectful students who will serve as citizens in our society.
This video will be approximately 6-10 minutes in duration and will consist of scenarios the students brainstormed to be cases of bullying they are aware of (cyberbullying, physical abuse, verbal abuse, emotional abuse, leaving others out etc). The video will begin with the bullying scenarios (in black and white format) and end with those scenarios being corrected by students standing up to bullying (in color format). During the bullying portion of the video the song “True Colors” will be playing and finally “Roar” by Katy Perry when the students stand up to bullying. There will also be a portion of the video devoted to students interpretation of what a bully is as well as their solution to dealing with bullies. It will be very student centered and involve input and participation from every single student in our school.

Update (March 6, 2014)

On Friday Feb 28th, 2014 @ 10am we, the staff and students of Holy Cross Elementary in Holyrood Newfoundland, welcomed a Sea of Pink into our school. Parents/guardians, Community members, and special guests such as Mr. Darrin Pike, the CEO of the new Newfoundland and Labrador English School Board all came together to support our Hear Us Roar Antibullying Campaign.

Update (March 6, 2014)

Along with our school wide video production, our students' faces were an important part of displaying the effects of bullying. These beautiful posters made with our very own students added a heart wrenching but beautiful affect.

Update (March 6, 2014)

Our grade students did an amazing production. They performed in a dance compilation to a mish mash of empowering songs. Our grade 6's rocked the stage in black glowing in a black light, it was UNREAL! Those who witnessed the artistic performance were in awe!
