The Light Within Us

In mid-May, we would like to have a Grade 8 awareness day about racism, bullying and getting to know one another. We would like to split up the grade 8 students into eight groups to do activities that address the issues mentioned above. We would also like to have a guest speaker to address our grade 8 student body on these issues. A barbecue lunch will be provided. Supplies will be needed for the various activities. Activities will include: icebreakers, problem solving; bench ball (similar to dodge ball); and team-building. Our hope is to build community and break down barriers.

Update (September 24, 2013)

On June 1, 2012, all of our grade 7 and 8 students gathered on the school grounds for a morning of team-building and challenge activities, led by both intermediate and senior students under the guidance and supervision of teachers. Homeroom classes were assigned colours and were asked to dress up in those colours to help build spirit within the homeroom classes. Homeroom classes were also asked to come up with a homeroom chant, which they shared with the whole group following the activities. Students enjoyed a snack towards the end of the morning. The morning was a huge success and a wonderful way to build community and break down barriers.
