All Because Of Caring Students

This project began when a local wildlife refuge center came to visit our J.K./S.K. class. The students donated food items to the shelter. In further classroom discussions, the students wanted to continue to help these creatures and suggested asking parents, then the community for money. They chose to ask for one penny, designed their logo and came up with the name "ABC'S": "All Because of Caring Students".

The Gr. 7 class generated a "logo"computer likeness. It was placed on donation containers and a placard. Both are placed within local community businesses. Every two weeks the money will be collected and counted with the Gr. 7 students. A J.K./S.K. decision will be made as to what can and should be purchased for donating.

The grade 7 students will integrate technology and media into this project by creating a news cast documenting the process the JK/SK students followed during the ABC project. Students will utilize various forms of technology such as digital cameras, MacBooks applications such as iMovie and Garageband, and ipods to record the journey. A culminating news cast video will be created to emulate what students see on the news on television. They will assume the roles of news anchor people, writers, camera specialists, and sound effect experts. During the SK graduation ceremony in June 2012, parents and visitors will view the newscast and visualize the journey that their children experienced in accepting social responsibility and involving community partners in a quest to help needy animals.
