Olympic Connections

For the 2011-2012 school year, we have planned a year-long, fully integrated Project Based Learning Module centered around the theme of media journalism and lead-up reporting on the Olympic Summer Games that will take place in London in 2012. This cohort group of 70 – 80 students in grades 6, 7 and 8 will meet all of their prescribed curriculum through their projects and activities related to media literacy and the Olympics. They will learn how to be researchers, interviewers, journalists, reporters, producers and editors. It is our vision that these students carry on the legacy of the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver by producing a series of TV vignettes directed towards families and children. Leading up to the Olympics, our students would cover stories about Canada’s athletes, Summer Olympic sports, Canada’s connections with the UK, Olympic values and carrying on the legacy of the 2010 games.
