My Colonel Gray

Issue: Connected schools are schools where the dots connect-where a wide range of people are positively interacting. In our school, we have a lot of distinct groups doing great things but this does not include our whole school community. We want to take action to build a One Colonel Gray Community -a place everyone feels connected. We believe this will increase student engagement and achievement too.

Solution: "My Colonel Gray" is a social-action project intended to CONNECT and ENGAGE students within the school. This social action project will help students meet people face-to-face and develop interpersonal skills and confidence. As teachers and student leaders, we need to structure activities and explicitly work on communication and team building skills with all students. Building relationships is important in high school because these experiences teach young adults how to socialize and foster interactions with a variety of people throughout their lives. Top performing schools have students who feel a strong connection with their school community.
