Gardening

We would like to investigate the benefits of organic food, by providing our school breakfast club/snack program with fresh vegetables that we would grow in a hydroponic garden. We would research the benefits of this type of system and educate other students in the school. Students wanted to pair this project with connecting with a local nursing home to build relationships. We thought that we could share the fruits of our labour as we visit. Students would like to complete scrapbooks of our gardening project and then share these with the elders. Perhaps we could partner to do a gardening project at the nursing home.

Update (June 12, 2012)

We have spent lots of time researching plants, lights and hydroponic equipment. We have gone to the high school numerous times to learn how to use the equipment and observe their experiments. We ordered our equipment in January and it has just arrived in May, so we are looking forward to continuing this project next year!
