Making and Keeping Friends
We will be targeting our grades 2, 3, and 4 students with this project. We are consistently working hard on building healthy relationships, and social skills through a variety of activities during the year. This particular project with DM Family Services would be an exceptional way to be provided with specific professional help otherwise unavailable to us. A description of the proposed project is below.
"Making and Keeping Friends is a six week intensive program designed to support children and enhance their social thinking skills. There is a specific focus on communication skills, including: initiating, sustaining, and maintaining contact, verbal and non-verbal communication, reciprocal conversations and the art of game playing. Through use of arts and crafts, therapeutic games, and video vignettes, the children are fully engaged in each session."

Update
(May 10, 2013)
Grade 2 and 3 classes participated in 3 workshops each lasting almost an hour. The children learned social skills, about friendship, and how their actions affected others positively and/or negatively through role-play, reflection sheets, and activities. We felt very satisfied with the results.
