TEAM Build Project

Below is an outline of the project and its development.

The Tantramar Efficient and Affordable Model (TEAM) was a concept developed out of a meeting between several students from Tantramar Regional High School and Sustainable Sackville. From this meeting two areas of concern stood out – there is an ongoing need for affordable housing in Sackville. Further, in considering issues of sustainability, the TEAM wanted to focus on reducing energy and water consumption in town. It seemed a logical next step that we bring community partners together to construct a good quality, affordable and energy efficient home in Sackville that can be a model for other such construction.
Also, TEAM saw the education possibilities of having Sackville youth involved with such a rewarding experience. In years past, construction students from Tantramar Regional High School had been involved in home building, which was found to be a valuable experience. With the TEAM build, students will learn firsthand about building energy efficient homes. They will also benefit from the social contribution, reducing the cost of the building for the home owner by doing the construction from the foundation to finish.
Mission Statement - The TEAM works with the community to build quality affordable and energy efficient homes to help make Sackville more sustainable.

Update (January 5, 2012)

Tantramar Efficiency Affordable Model (TEAM) has brought the Sackville community together to build an affordable and energy efficient home for a local family. With the help of local community groups and businesses, students at Tantramar Regional High School will be learning more than just how to build a house. The Team Build Project was developed to support the Skilled Trades and Technology Program offered at the school and at the same time help students become more aware of social concerns around them. The building project is teaching students about sustainable building using modern construction methods and selling scrap wood to help raise funds needed to build the home. They are also learning how important is to give back to the local community.
