Social and Environmental Justice; Outdoor Classroom

Students will collaborate with the Parent Association, Local Child/Parent Association and school staff to create an outdoor classroom. This outdoor classroom will be part of a larger Natural Playground project that is environmentally respectful, by contouring land as opposed to using plastic structures. The outdoor classroom will be used to set the tone for environmental and humanitarian leadership discussions. The classroom will also be used for student council meetings to discuss humanitarian projects.

Update (September 14, 2011)

We have been working hard on our outdoor classroom! Thanks to the PTA, the children have been enjoying the new multi-use outdoor classroom. It is a set of rocks spaced so that there is a teacher rock and many student rocks strategically spaced. This area also doubles as a natural playground feature that students use as stepping stones at recess time. Watch for pictures soon.

Update (November 17, 2011)

Our outdoor classroom is now completed. Thanks to the hard work of our PTA, the stones have been placed and the pea gravel and borders are all completed. Students have been enjoying the double use of the classroom. Teachers can use it for outdoor classroom activities and students can use it at recess as a play area to hop from rock to rock.
