Artistic Roots

During the 1700s when Hutterites were living in Slovakia, they created a type of pottery known as Habåner. The art form of pottery has been lost by Hutterite people with only the odd person creating pottery as a hobby.

Our mission statement at Fairholme School reads as follows: "At Fairholme School every student has the right to the best possible education. We want to foster confident contributing citizens who are competent life-long learners, with a knowledge of and appreciation for our Hutterian heritage: spiritual, cultural and historical."

In an effort to create connections between our students and their cultural heritage, we wish to bring back to life the lost art-form of pottery in our community.

Teachers and community members will partake in pottery lessons and in turn teach students. Together we will resurrect a part of our past.
