Commit to be Fit!

As part of hosting the 47th International Children’s Games in Windsor, and in an effort to capture the spirit of this international athletic event, the City is collaborating with three local school boards and the University of Windsor’s Odette School of Business to create an online social networking tool for area children. ‘The In Sport We are One’ online tracking tool will promote healthy living, educate students on health topics, and track individual progress towards a series of health goals. King Edward was lucky enough to be one of the schools to help kick off this website and when it is ready we want to be ready too. We wanted to take this time to let you know about how we are going to start our active awareness initiative here at King Edward.

Update (June 26, 2013)

As we began looking at hosting a triathlon that consisted of our three main school
focuses over the past four years: reading, being active and recycling. With the
devotion of our school Eco-Squad and Healthy Heroes, we were able to design and
full day and for the first time at our school, Kindergarten to Grade 8 event!

Our activities consisted of some form of active movement (recycling relays and tugs of
war), our resting periods were literacy based (word challenges, energy conservation
quiz) and we even hosted a non-traditional activity of children’s yoga. To maintain the
student’s energy levels, every student in the school received various snacks
throughout the day, including fruit freezies, fruit smoothies, and jumbo freezes. The
Healthy Heroes and Eco-Squad have a lot to be proud of after the past couple of years
to really present this event!
