Building leadership Capacity

We have 3 graduating students who have been instrumental in the promotion of Allied Youth at our school. Two of these students serve on the Provincial Executive of Allied Youth Newfoundland and Labrador, one being the Vice president, and the third is our local past president. The role of this organization is to build leadership capacity, encourage positive lifestyle and to promote citizenship through community and school projects. We would like to send 10 young members to the Provincial Leadership conference March 31 to April 3, 2011 to provide the training and support necessary to encourage them to take over the leadership roles for this organization at the post level and hopefully at the provincial level as well. This organization has been very active in our school and community. At the school level they conduct drug awareness campaigns, positive lifestyle events such as gym nights, sliding parties, helped organize in Think Day events, encouraging acceptance of all and the importance of global action and Wellness day activities for students. In the community Allied Youth conducts annual food drives, clean ups, and organizes games for seniors. We would like to provide the support necessary to ensure that this program will have the leadership necessary to continue at our school and that our region will be represented at the provincial level.

Update (March 24, 2011)

Main River students looking forward to an awesome leadership experience

We have 11 returning students and 2 graduating students registered to attend the Allied Youth Provincial Conference to be held in Corner Brook March 31 to April 3. I am very pleased that two of these students are now running for the 2011-2012 Provincial Executive, a body of students that lead the organization. Of the remaining 9 students, several are expressing interest in taking on leadership roles at the post level next year. The funding received helped with the cost of registration and made the event more accessable to all student who wanted to attend. We look forward to travelling to confence next week and networking with student leaders from across the province.

Thanks again for your support of this project. We will post an update after students return from the conference.

Update (April 4, 2011)

Our Project, Building leadership Capacity, was a great success and accomplished all goals set. The funding received was used to help send 10 students from our school to the 48th annual Allied Youth Provincial conference held in Corner Brook, NL. The students were involved in an amazing leadership weekend and had the opportunity to network with other youth from across the province. I am pleased to report that 2 of our students ran and were elected to the Provincial executive which organizes and runs all provincial activities for the youth organization and also provides ongoing support to other posts in their region. We also have 3 members who attended and are planning to run in our upcoming post elections to take the lead at our post level. I am very pleased with the student growth as a result of this initiative and would like to thank the Imagineaction program for their support of this worthwhile project,
