Buddy Reading-Sharing the Read

In our school, there is a wide variety of ages and grades. My class alone consists of 6 levels. This year our theme is protecting the rainforests. In order to make sure that all students’ lives are enriched with the wide diversity of reading material available, I created a buddy reading club.in this club the older students read to the younger ones and the young ones also read to the older ones. Every time they finish a book they fill in a postcard with the details of the book along with a drawing showing their favourite part. They read five books and rise to level one and receive a digitally made frog from our three dimensional printer. Each level is a different colour frog. This will continue until they have read 30 books and achieved all the levels

Update (October 20, 2018)

The students are involved in there buddy reading once a week and have read and completed a response post card for each of the books they read. They have completed their first level and have received there first frog. Yeah!

Update (March 26, 2019)

Buddy Reading has been a tremendous asset to my reading program. Each group has read between 25-30 books. We meet twice in a nine-day cycle. The themes this year have been rainforest ad oceans.
