Motivational Board

The program consists of 18-21 year olds who are back on
track to get their high school diploma. Currently, the school does not have a library to reflect student interests and in order to encourage reading, we need to offer young adult novels that students would be interested in reading. The students would like to take on the initiative of building a student library that they are able to utilize. The school is an alternative educational building that has a variety of non-traditional
programs to help students achieve (even under difficult circumstances that life has handed them). The class will be in charge of designing, creating, and organizing the "library" choices. hey will serve as inspiration to incoming students who enter the programs. While this project may seem small to some, these students are so used to feeling overlooked that they need something to make their
voices heard. This small project will enable them be proud of what they can create.

Update (May 14, 2019)

The students have been enjoying the new library thanks to the Imagine Action Grant! It is now full of current young adult novels that can be read. This project has increased the literacy in our program and has also allowed the students to get involved in their education! students were asked to compile a list of current young adult novels that they wished to have in their library. The books were ordered from bookoutlet.ca and that enables us to use the $300 grant to the fullest!

Update (June 25, 2019)

The Imagine Action grant has allowed the students to have access to a variety of young adult fiction novels that they enjoyed throughout the school year! Our Alternative school did not have a library prior to this grant which made it difficult for students to have access to current, and relevant, novels.
The new library promotes literacy and reading for enjoyment while, at the same time, allowing students to take out books of interest and read them at home.
This project has been such a blessing to our program! Even students in other programs within the school are coming to check out books from the library!!
