Building RelationshipsThrough Art

Our school sees a disconnect between the older students and younger students. We recognize the needs of positive relationships and role models.
Students from middle school will work on art projects with younger students and at the same time build positive relationships. Students will gain a connection with at least one other student in the building.
While working on art projects, students will converse about school activities, classes, or things going on outside of the school. The group will meet weekly.

Update (July 10, 2018)

Every Monday, a group of students from grades 3-7 got together and had fun making art projects. This wasn't just about making art, it was also a time to build relationships between younger and older students. Students sat in groups and chatted about school events and things going on in the community. This was a great way for younger students to get comfortable with the older students. Eventually, we noticed that the older students were initiating conversations in the halls with the younger students. These friendships will surely continue.
