Intergenerational Artists

This project is designed to:
*Engage senior citizens in a positive a caring environment
*Encourage creativity and contribution at both ends of the
age spectrum
*Instill the importance of serving and reaching out in the community in our young students
The children will play host to our senior citizens in local nursing homes, engaging them in conversations and collaborative art projects. This project will also involve time to read and share their learning with our guests and also baking and preparing for the visit alongside the art focus.
We will send our senior friends art to be displayed at their nursing residence. With funding, we will be able to visit our friends in their nursing home at least once this year.

Update (March 29, 2018)

The students really enjoyed baking snacks for their elderly friends. They loved making a craft together for the residents of Rocmaura to take back to their rooms.

Update (June 12, 2018)

The benefits of this project have been immeasurable! The students have gained so much through their interaction with our elderly friends. Not only did they develop compassion for our aged community but their conversational skills became outstanding. The students took a hands-on approach to this project, baking regularly for our guests, coming up with art projects they could do with and for their guests. We also had our friends over to our school to enjoy lunch and play performances with us. The seniors enjoyed the plays as much as the children and were delighted in seeing their learning. The arts and crafts component was a great way to instigate conversation, creativity and work on fine motor skills for everyone involved.
