Check Yourself Team

A student leadership team will be assembled and trained to build knowledge and capacity around positive mental health and resilience. The team will be divided into smaller committees who are responsible for mental health activities throughout the year (such as: art therapy lunch hour, meditation and yoga, awareness posters and videos, free high five area, twitter updates). The team will also collaboratively think of positive thinking quotes and messages to post around the school, create theme days and use spirit gear to model and create the conditions for a mentally healthy school.

Update (April 26, 2017)

Students in the Check Yourself Team have been creating awareness around reducing stress around the school. First they started a Gratituesday wall where any student around the school could post something they were grateful for. The team also started posting anonymous positive affirmation notes on student's lockers such as (You've been working very hard this week! or You look great today!) Lastly, students started the Book of Awesome initiative where students around the school identify an "Awesome" moment and read it over the morning announcements (such as "That awesome moment will be focusing on running the Mental Health Day where the whole school will participate in a Mental Health activity (art therapy, journaling, karate, etc.)
