Literacy for Life

Students will organize and facilitate a book drive for learners in low income communities who have limited financial means to purchase books. Research shows that access to books and the amount of reading done at home is positively co-related to higher literacy skills and success at school. The book drive will demonstrate the importance of literacy outside of standardized testing and assessment. Real change can happen through literacy. Literacy helps open the doors to opportunity, inspires creative and critical thinking and has been proven to contribute to healthier mental and physical well-being. If some people think cellphone ownership should be a human right, access to quality books should be as well.
