Bridging the Gap between Generations

Middle level students will build relationships with the residents of the local nursing home. Twice each month, students will travel to the nursing home to interact with the residents through playing games, reading LA writing pieces, creating artwork.

Update (April 25, 2016)

Since March, the middle level students have been visiting the nursing home bi-weekly. While there, students talk to the residents, read their own writing pieces, look at pictures, and go for walks. We have recently purchased a variety of local historical books that students are using to develop questions which will then be used as discussion pieces to hopefully help with the residents' cognitive memory.

Update (June 3, 2016)

Our students have truly enjoyed spending time with the residents at the Millcove Nursing Home. Bi-weekly, students visit, read writing pieces, play board games, look at books, and have amazing conversations with members of another generation. Many memories and friendships have been made over the last few months. We hope to continue this wonderful experience next year.
