Kent Road Social Justice Action Project
A small group of grade 5 and 6 students will work with a classroom teacher in an after-school program. Students will choose an issue in the local community that they will focus on, and either work towards finding a solution, or raise awareness of the issue in the school or in the community.
Teacher in charge will facilitate the group's action project in the community, and support the students in their efforts.
Possibilities for action include: connecting and working with local organizations on a project or initiative, creating a video or poster campaign, fundraising project, developing a speaker series, producing and hosting an assembly, volunteer work in the community, campaigning local government for funding for an initiative.
