Mindfulness Training

We work with at risk youth in an Outreach School setting. As the school health champion, I am creating a quiet, safe space for yoga instruction and mindfulness training for our students. We would share our experience with other schools on the jurisdiction wellness website and also at our Healthy Schools Youth Conference.

Update (June 1, 2016)

We work with at risk youth in an Outreach School setting. As the school health champion, I have co-taught Yoga 15 which was offered for the first time at our school.

We created a quiet, safe space for yoga instruction and mindfulness training for our students in a room next door to our school which is located in the Leduc Recreation Centre.

Update (June 1, 2016)

We purchased Himalayan salt lamps for our yoga and meditation space. We also put salt lamps at the teachers' stations and in our counselling office. With other monies we purchased yoga mats, bolsters and straps.

We offered Yoga 15 for the first time to 7 of our Outreach students. I taught the classes while another teacher worked with students on the history and theory of yoga. We also hired a yogi in to teach mindfulness to our students.

I taught pre-natal yoga to our pregnant and parenting teens.

I also used the yoga supplies and room to teach yoga to our staff for 4 classes at lunchtime.

The Youth Conference dates were changed so we were unable to attend this year.

We will continue to get a lot of use out of our yoga supplies as our Yoga 15 class is offered next year.
