24 Hour Fast

Our 24 Hour Fast serves to raise awareness for child poverty around the world and in our own community. Students at Western Secondary collect pledges and commit to fasting for 24 hours. All monies raised are divided and donated to 'Free The Children', PAMOJA projects, and a local food bank. These charities will benefit projects and initiatives in Kenya and Tanzania (East Africa), as well as the Windsor-Essex community.

Update (March 24, 2011)

Hello!
We are gearing up for our '24 Hour Fast'! The date has been picked and plans are in motion to make this an unforgettable experience for students at Western Secondary. We will be holding our '24 Hour Fast' on May 13-14th, 2011. Our first meeting with the students will be on Monday, April 4th. At that time, students will attend an information session about the '24 Hour Fast' and will be given important informational forms to fill out. Every student that participates will be required to collect a minimum of $50 in pledges from their friends, families, and neighbours. During the event, students will be placed into teams, and activities will be provided to keep students occupied and to learn about global hunger and hunger in their own communities. Our fund raising goal is $2000. Wish us luck!

Update (May 16, 2011)

We hosted Western Secondary's '24 Hour Fast' over this past weekend and it was a huge success. We had 30 students participate and we raised over $1700 to go towards charity. Fun was had by all and the students were able to develop a real appreciation for what hunger feels like. There were deep discussions about the importance of service to others; especially towards those that are less fortunate. We are really proud of our students and their contributions to their local and global communities.
